This year the festival «All Together Opera» will continue the tradition of staging operas against the background of architectural masterpieces of the suburbs of St. Petersburg. A rarely performed opera by great Mozart «Die Entführung aus dem Serail» will be performed on 22 July at the Main Courtyard of the Catherine Palace in Tsarskoye Selo.
Strange as it is, but this cheerful opera is a rare guest on bills of Russian theatres. Only a few are aware that this Mozart's work is directly connected with Russia: It was written in 1882 year and dedicated to the visit to Vienna of Сrown Prince Grand Duke Paul Petrovich and his wife Grand Duchess Maria Feodorovna, who were travelling through Europe under the name of Severnie Dukes. The Turkish theme was chosen as a mark of respect to Russia which has won the war with Turkey. «Die Entführung aus dem Serail» is a true masterpiece, abundant with magnificent arias, witty ensembles and colourful exotic of "Turkish music".
Gorgeous facade of the Catherine Palace as architectural masterpiece of the rococo style and "Turkish baths" in a Park nearby are perfectly in character with the music masterpiece of the same epoch.
